Wind Generators Ferroresonance Overvoltage Protection Methods: A review

چکیده :
Ferroresonance, as a sustained transient phenomenon associated with excessive voltages and currents, can cause severe consequences if not mitigated properly. In that regard, ferroresonance limiters or inhibitor devices can mark promising solutions against such adverse situations. This paper presents a comparative survey of research activities and emerging technologies for ferroresonance protection schemes in wind generation systems. In this article, after mathematically defining the ferroresonance phenomenon in wind generation systems, a short discussion is made on different types of wind generators with a focus on their vulnerability to ferroresonance. Subsequently, a comprehensive comparative study on ferroresonance protection systems is presented based on their technical operational characteristics. It is understood that inductive and resistive overvoltage protection systems possess superior performances and higher operating speeds in comparison with other protection systems.
