Energy and Exergy Analysis of an Enhanced Combined Cycle Power Plant with Steam Injection

چکیده :
With the growing demand for electricity and recent awareness of the decarbonization trends in power generation, transforming gas turbine power plants into combined cycles has become a coherent strategy to enhance the overall energy output and reduce related emissions. In this study, the effect of steam injection into the gas turbine combustion chamber on the performance of the proposed combined cycle power plant, by implementing the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics on each power plant’s components, is discussed. By performing the energy-exergy analysis we can obtain the exact magnitude of exergy destruction and efficiency in each component, separately. Additionally, this allows us to evaluate the effect of operating conditions, such as the pressure ratio for gas turbine and turbine inlet temperature, on the performance of the combined cycle and gas turbine cycle through sensitivity analysis. The results indicate that increasing the steam injection fraction and turbine inlet temperature enhances the combined cycle total energy and exergy efficiencies while raising energy and exergy efficiencies to 53.06% and 51.47%, respectively. Also, a 3.53% rise in the overall output of the power plant is evaluated.
